Atlanta may be known for standstill traffic, the Perimeter (I-285 for those not aware), and Spaghetti Junction, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some scenic drives within reasonable reach. And who wants a scenic drive to be right next door?
That’s why it was nice to see our partners at Yahoo! Travel include this gem in their list of America’s most scenic roads. The southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway is about 160 miles to the north of Atlanta and within 50 miles of the state line near Clayton.
Here’s what the Yahoo! Travel piece has to say:
“The nearly 500 miles of blacktop twisting through the Great Smoky Mountains and Shenandoah national parks was built for travelers seeking Appalachian overlooks. It’s a panoramic drive for all seasons, with undulating slopes of color in autumn, a bounty of forest canopy in summer, and hot-cider ski resorts in winter. The parkway has become a paradise for birders: with 59 resident species, it boasts more diversity than the entire continent of Europe.”
